The longer you stay alive, the more cars attack. In Survival, the object is simply to stay alive as long as possible. The single-player modes include Quest (objective-based missions), Arcade, and Survival, a brand new level. Vigilante 8: Second Offense contains more modes than the previous version, too. This can be saved on a memory card for you to play against a friend for later use. Well, after the magic 100 number, your car chasis will completely be altered to a new, super powerful car. Maybe you have a Pacer in the beginning, for instance. But after stacking up 100 points, your car will change altogether. The actual adjustments appear on the cars during play. In the menu system, gamers can see what their cars look like, and after earning 50 points, their car upgrades will appear permanently on the car, and on the menu screen. By doing so, players earn points that increase car power and weaponry. In Quest Mode, one of the objects is to earn points by blasting as many of the cars as possible while achieving the Quest objectives. An entirely new point system has been implemented for gamers to earn specialty cars and enhancements for existing ones. The real key to Vigilante 8: Second Offense, however, is in the upgrade functions of your cars. Almost all buildings and canisters, fences, crates are completely vulnerable. And this year, the landscapes are even bigger, but they're also more destructible. Last year's Vigilante 8 spotlighted snowbound avalanches and tumbling desert rocks, which are sure to be enhanced and added to. What this means dear fans is that more of the great outdoors will likely be crumbling upon your sorry heads. Terrain now spans across the US with more levels and more detailed environments. With more vehicles and more weapons than before, Second Offense has also grown in geographic size, sporting 12 destructible levels, and 17 cars. With Second Offense, Activision looks to keep the combat recipe intact, while spicing up the overall feel and scope of the game. Taking the Twisted Metal formula and bringing it to new heights in gameplay and graphics, Vigilante 8 quickly toppled the car-combat genre with its objective-based missions, interactive backgrounds, and hellaciously fun car combat action. When freshly shrink-wrapped packages of Vigilante 8 slapped down on retail shelves last summer for the first time, few people realized what a gem had just been bestowed upon them.
